Case Study: BS4142 noise assessment for an air conditioning unit
Introduction
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) Council requested a BS4142 noise assessment report for the planning application for an air conditioning unit for a residential dwelling in Holland Park.
MCS020
The RBKC Council declined the MCS020 application due to the sound level exceeding the permissible sound limit.
BS4142 noise assessment report
The report assessed the noise over 24 hours. It was concluded that the unit should be in an acoustic enclosure to succeed with the application.
Planning permission
To have planning permission granted, the specific noise of the air conditioning unit must be 10dB below the background sound level, and 15dB below, if the unit has tonality.
