Lessons learnt, frequently asked questions and customer queries

Like all companies, we get many enquiries. Fortunately, we have an extensive lesson learnt database

On this page we address:

  • FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) from customers,
  • Lessons learnt (discovered after the project ended), and
  • Case studies of the work we've completed.

If you have any questions about your company challenge or about ours, please fill in the form by clicking here!

Here you can click on the hyper-link, which will take you to the question, case study or lesson learnt. If the topic is not underlined, there is no link, but the topic will update in the future.

Cost and revenue

How does Environmentally Sound increase your profit margin?

We help businesses reduce cost by:

  • engineering better products
  • improve manufacturing processes and operations
  • find solutions to their design problems

All to reduce cost and improve the profit margin. And in the process make your company more environmentally friendly.

How do our services help companies save revenue?

Here are two key areas where your company will save revenue:

  • engineering and
  • processes

Engineering products that are environmentally robust throughout their lifecycle. From the product design specification, through to end of service and recycling.

The design of the product or machine is the first area where one should save revenue. Encompassing processes and procedures, it is your company's responsibility to improve them.

Your company should develop over time, so that designs cost you less money to realise the product. We address several areas in engineering and designing of new products.

Be sure that the product requirements for the product is in detail and complete. Having a thorough exercise in drawing up the requirements will save you in the long—run. As incomplete requirements will deliver products that are not fit for the purpose. And there will be a risk of redesigning.

The design of the product can start with concise requirements. During which new concepts will evolved. These new concepts are risks in your programme. As you or the designer will not have any proof whether it will work or not.

You should have warranty data, if your company designs and manufactures products. Warranty data, i.e. product failures, failure costs, and so on. Thus, your company's attention is always drawn to the failing parts. So one does not notice the parts and components and products that do not cause you problems and loss of revenue. But you do have good performers.

You are aware which designs and products do not cost you money. Thus, use concepts from these ‘good designs' should in your new products. All because over the years in the field, they have proven to be reliable and low cost. So, avoid new unproven concepts wherever you can.

If you cannot, and you must use a new concept, be sure to design an experiment to test the new concept. That aligns with the FMEA and the DVP. If one cannot draw up an experiment or test that you cannot perform, change the design.

Over the last 25 years, we have found that companies design products without looking forward. Design new concepts without addressing how they are going to test them. And what equipment they would need when tested.

For example, to confirm that a concept works, you want an error of 10% greatest. Yet, the testing facility that you have available, is not that accurate. Hence, you now have designed something with high risk, as you are unable to verify it. Which could cost you the project.

So, by improving engineering and processes, you can minimise risk. And you can use past designs and systems that have proven reliable.

During the excavation of the Channel Tunnel, surveyors monitored the direction of excavation. By referencing points on land, and not by where they were going.

So they tunnelled in the set direction by aligning points on land. The surveyors knew from where they came, thus they knew where they were going.

Your company can follow the same approach. Look at what products and concepts were/are reliable, that generated revenue and those that didn’t.

Select the best performing product And re-use those concepts.

What is the cost of our services?

Our goal is to protect and improve the environment, and for the people that live and work in it.

We have an approach that utilised efficiency, adds value and mostly eliminates waste. So, making your company more efficient in the way it operates.

So reducing cost, and increasing your profit margin. So that you and your company save revenue. Whatever we suggest, it will be more efficient, and you will benefit financially.

We always find the most effective solution, that will save you time, resources and energy. From design requirements, through to after-market.

We do not charge everybody the same price. We consider the size of your company. Thus, we charge smaller companies less. Our services relate to environmental and financial performance improvement.

Is being environmentally friendly and saving revenue like a chicken and egg scenario?

No. Once you are more environmentally aware or friendly, you shall save money. We have proven it. That's why we are offering you that opportunity.

About our services

Are we the best in our field?

There are many consulting engineering companies in the UK. And around the world that could help you. We happen to be one of those companies.

We strive to improve to the current natural environment. We find ways in which humanity, machines and the environment can exist in harmony.

We address four entities:

  • the environment
  • humanity
  • machinery, equipment,and products, and
  • processes.

Be assured, with our 25 years' experience of

  • improving products
  • making them operate without influence and reliably in their immediate environment.

We improve products and processes to blend in with the environment. To create synergy between mankind, machine and the environment.

We are passionate about making companies more environmentally friendly. And thus increasing their profit margin.

We already have broad and in-depth engineering and management experience. And so we intend to grow.

We are here for you.

It looks like you do a bit of everything?

By first impression? Yes; but there is depth to our services.

It's mechanical engineering with a bias towards environmental engineering. Engineering in combination with processes and operations management.

Encompassing two areas (that will create great cross seminal papers). As we focus on both to improve designs as well as processes and operations.

Isn't what you would expect from an engineering consultancy with 25 years' experience?

So, how are our services environmentally friendly/aware?

By moving away from products or concepts that fail testing, you are using concepts that work, and therefore ’no surprises’. Therefore, no failed parts, no time wasted on testing, no going around in circles.

Less energy, less pollution. Thus adding value with every step.

You now have an efficient business approach. Through efficiency, you are also more environmentally friendly.
